Outrage as Man Urges Nigerians to Arm Themselves Over Rising Insecurity

A man has sparked widespread reactions online after calling on citizens to arm themselves in response to growing insecurity across parts of Plateau State and other regions in Nigeria.

In a viral video circulating on social media, the man criticised government officials for what he described as a failure to adequately protect lives, referencing recent attacks and the increasing displacement of communities.

His remarks come amid heightened concerns over killings and rural insecurity, with many Nigerians demanding stronger and more decisive security interventions from authorities.

In the video, he said:

Nigerians, go and get yourself a gun. Forget any project or investment you want to go and make at the moment, just go and get yourselves a very big gun. As you can see, your president is no longer interested in securing your lives. He’s more interested in getting a second term in 2027.”

He also criticised the response of state authorities during recent incidents, alleging a lack of urgency and accountability.

The Governor of Plateau State came to the scene in an armoured vehicle and refused to come down. What did he say? We will bury the dead. Nothing was said about justice or apprehending the perpetrators.”

Continuing, he accused national leadership and security agencies of failing citizens:

Your Chief of Army Staff is more interested in quoting the prodigal son than apprehending the culprits. Many villages are empty, and the press is not reporting most of these things. We are on our own.”

His comments echo long-standing frustrations among Nigerians, especially following repeated attacks in northern communities, where citizens have increasingly questioned the government’s response and commitment to ensuring security.

Reactions from Nigerians

The video triggered a wave of mixed reactions online:

That frustration is valid. The real issue is failed leadership and lack of accountability. Citizens deserve security, justice, and leaders who prioritize lives over political ambition. I support the man.”

“People don’t just want condolences anymore, they want accountability, visible action, and justice. Leaders can’t keep showing up after tragedies with speeches alone.”

“At least in a community, they should allow some people to own guns if they can’t secure us.”

“That is for those that can afford it. A lot of people can’t even feed properly right now. How are they going to buy guns?”

“Telling everyone to go and get a gun is a one-way ticket to civil war. This is advocating chaos, not justice.”

“Nigerians’ lives shouldn’t be collateral in anyone’s quest for power. But most Nigerians can’t even afford self-defense.”

“People who can’t afford food can’t afford guns. Bullets are expensive. If the government can’t protect you, you can’t possibly protect yourself.”

The viral statement has further intensified the national conversation around security, self-defense, and government responsibility, with many warning that while frustration is understandable, widespread calls for armament could have dangerous consequences.
