Ortom blames powerful individuals for the resurgence of violence in Benue

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has linked the deadly attack on the Abagena community in the state’s Makurdi Local Government Area to “reckless comments of some highly-placed individuals.”

It was previously reported that gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen stormed the community on Thursday night, killing a family of six and injuring several others.

In response, Ortom described the renewed attacks on the state as a declaration of war on the people of the state in a statement issued and made available to our correspondent by his Special Adviser, Media & Publicity, Terver Akase.

Governor Ortom stated that the latest attack in Abagena, a community with one of the highest numbers of internally displaced people in Makurdi, reaffirms his previous statements that the suspected terrorists are hell-bent on reclaiming the people’s ancestral lands.
