Oprah Winfrey, the media mogul, has spoken out about the symptoms she experienced during menopause.
The 68-year-old TV host revealed that she had severe heart palpitations that made her feel like she was going to die.
During an episode of The Checkup With Dr. David Agus on Paramount Plus, Oprah discussed her menopausal struggles.
Menopause is a process that marks the end of a woman’s menstrual cycle, and the symptoms can be mild or severe.
Winfrey explained that her symptoms worsened to the point where she was awake all night, making her question her sanity.
“I keep journals where I write things like this because I wasn’t sure if I’d make it through the night,” she explained.
“I felt like I will die every night.”
She noticed that when she began to experience menopause, she became restless and was unable to focus long enough to read.
The broadcaster also revealed that it was the cause of the Oprah Book Club’s cancellation, and that one of her most severe symptoms was heart palpitations.
‘I have been on perimenopausal, for my late 40s and I have heart palpitation. I went to see every doctor possible to try and figure out what was wrong with me,’ she said.
Winfrey revealed that she saw five different doctors in an attempt to find a cure for her heart palpitations.
She described visiting a female heart doctor, who put her on heart medication and performed an angiogram to show how blood flows through arteries, veins, or the heart.
“Nobody ever suggested once that what may be wrong with her was menopause,” Winfrey said.
