NYSC Official Advises Male Corps Members to “Shoot Their Shot” Instead of Spending on Silent Love

An NYSC official has stirred reactions online after advising male corps members to stop spending money on female colleagues they admire without clearly expressing their feelings.

Speaking during an orientation camp session organized by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the official addressed relationship habits among corps members, warning that many young men waste money trying to impress ladies through constant gifts and food.

In her words:

You like a female corper, stop buying food all the time. Open your mouth and tell her. Talk! Why are you buying her food?”

She stressed that instead of “silent spending,” male corps members should be bold enough to communicate their intentions directly to avoid confusion and emotional stress.

According to her, clarity helps both parties understand where they stand:

Just tell her, ‘Hello dear, I like you. Do you like me back?’ Let her tell you yes or no. If she tells you, ‘I’ll think about it,’ today or tomorrow, move on. Leave her alone.”

Her comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with many agreeing that the current economic situation doesn’t favor “silent love,” while others shared personal experiences from their service year.

Some reactions include:

Na real talk, this economy no fit carry silent love again 😭”

“Some men go dey do girlfriend duties for person wey no even send them”

“One thing I love about myself was that I didn’t even speak or collect any number during camp so I don’t have any reason to buy you food.”

“Imagine how damaged and simped a lot of men this generation are…”

“Lol, not even a Pongila sweet did I buy for any female corper during my service year…”

“I have not seen a lady who rejects food… she go collect am.”

“The woman self don sabi… shoot your shot oh”

The video has continued to trend as more Nigerians weigh in on dating culture, communication, and financial responsibility among young people during their service year.
