Nurses at Uwani General Hospital in Enugu have sounded a serious alarm over the poor state of the facility, describing it as unsafe for both patients and healthcare workers.
In a distressing video circulating on X (formerly Twitter), the nurses revealed that the hospital lacks fundamental necessities such as water, electricity, and oxygen, making it nearly impossible to handle critical medical situations.
One nurse said:
“There’s no water, there’s no light, mosquitoes everywhere. I don’t know what the government is doing about it. There’s a woman in labour right now and there’s no light. What if complications arise? What do we do? What if the baby needs an incubator? This is a general hospital, yet the conditions are so bad. There’s no oxygen, no light to even give birth to a child. Our neighbours have light, but a whole general hospital doesn’t have electricity.”
The healthcare workers expressed frustration and called on the government to urgently intervene and repair the failing infrastructure. They also pointed out that a house beside the hospital has electricity, underlining how unacceptable it is for a government-run facility tasked with saving lives to lack basic power supply.
The video has sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians describing the situation as unacceptable and demanding immediate action from authorities.
