A Nigerian visitor has expressed astonishment at the sight of Rwandans actively maintaining their streets, highlighting the country’s well-earned reputation for cleanliness.
Though Rwanda may not top global environmental rankings, it is widely regarded as Africa’s cleanest nation. Cities like Kigali consistently rank among the continent’s most pristine urban areas, thanks to a mix of strict policies and strong civic engagement.
Key initiatives include Umuganda, a monthly community service day where citizens aged 18–65 participate in street cleaning and local maintenance. Since 2008, Rwanda has banned non-biodegradable plastic bags, and littering comes with heavy fines. Kigali and other cities also host Car-Free Days twice a month to reduce pollution, with strict enforcement ensuring compliance.
Rwanda’s unwavering focus on environmental health, civic responsibility, and regulation has earned it recognition on a global scale, often compared to countries like Denmark, Switzerland, and Singapore for its clean urban environments.

@Young Kaway:there are cleaning trucks for that in this case either there was an accident or a demolition since that site looks like a demolition site
@Abugod:😳😳😳😳What is going on here
@Bigwin:Abeg how much be house rent there bikonu🙏
@WirdO:One thing here is that 4 bedroom flat with just 2 people will be clean but 4 bedroom with 20 people can never be clean… Rwanda as a country is just 14 million im population… Lagos state alone is just 18million not to talk about other states… So if a state is trying to copy this another people will come from their state and begin to constitute nuisance and if the law enforcement target them they will play is because we are not the same tribe… Look at Uyo to be precise around 2017 and co go to the same Uyo now
