A Nigerian mother of two has taken to social media to express frustration over what she described as an excessive tax deduction on a bank transfer.
The woman, identified as Nwawiri Amarachi on Facebook, revealed that she was charged ₦87 after making a ₦25,000 transfer, sparking debate online about growing transaction charges in Nigeria.
In a post that has since gone viral, Amarachi shared a screenshot of the transaction dated January 3, 2025, questioning the fairness of the deduction.
“I was charged almost 100 naira for tax. Nigeria, which way? This tax is too much o. That means 100k tax fee will be very very big. This is getting serious,” she wrote.
Her complaint has resonated with many Nigerians who have continued to voice concerns over rising bank charges and electronic transaction fees.
This comes shortly after another Nigerian man raised a similar alarm on social media. The man, identified as @betsage4 on X (formerly Twitter), claimed that after transferring ₦100,000 to his Zenith Bank account, he was credited with just ₦63,000.
The post, shared at about 3:14 pm on December 31, 2025, quickly gained traction, amassing over 188,000 views.
Expressing his shock, he wrote:
“Yo @ZenithBank, what kind of madness is this? I sent ₦100k to my Zenith account and saw ₦63k as balance. What’s going on?”
Both incidents have reignited public conversations around bank deductions, taxes, and transparency in Nigeria’s financial system, with many calling on banks and regulators to provide clearer explanations to customers.
