Nigerian Man’s Date Ends Abruptly Over Money Standards

A Nigerian man recently sparked online conversation after sharing the unexpected end of a date due to a disagreement about money and dating expectations.

Meeting the Lady

The man explained that he met the lady through a friend, and they agreed to hang out the following day. He drove all the way to Ologolo to see her.

The Money Conversation

While they were about to head out, the lady brought up a video the man had posted about a girl who once asked him to buy her a phone and later blocked him.

She told him he shouldn’t blame the girl, saying it was her “standard.”

She revealed that she cannot date a man who doesn’t provide her with monthly financial support.

According to her, her ex used to give her ₦1 million per month, and she couldn’t date anyone who couldn’t meet that standard.

The man was surprised and asked why she had left her ex if he was providing that amount. She explained that she left because her ex eventually stopped giving her the money.

Questioning Standards

He then asked her if that meant he was “not her standard.”

At this point, he remembered something from earlier in the house:

Her neighbour had come to complain about unpaid contributions for water and electricity.

The man had even offered to pay, seeing it as a small matter.

He confronted her: “How could your standard be higher than mine when you couldn’t even afford water and electricity in your own house?”

The Abrupt Ending

After this, the lady immediately said she didn’t feel like going out anymore and asked him to drop her home.

To his surprise, when he got back home, he discovered that she had already blocked him.

This story highlights a clash between perceived financial “standards” and real-life responsibilities, sparking discussions online about expectations in dating, transparency, and self-awareness.
