Nigerian Man Sparks Social Media Debate Over ₦500,000 Burial Fee by Anglican Church

A Nigerian man’s post about the amount an Anglican church requested for his grandfather’s burial has stirred reactions on social media.

The man, identified as @daddyfemzy on X (formerly Twitter), revealed that the Anglican church demanded ₦500,000 before proceeding with his grandfather’s burial arrangements. According to him, all items in the church—including matters involving the deceased—are heavily taxed.

In the now-viral tweet, he stated that the church is located in Osun State, while expressing his displeasure over the high cost.

Anglican Church for Osun here charge us almost 500k for my grandpa burial 🤦. Everything including people who dies are being taxed heavily,” the tweet reads.
