A Nigerian man has opened up about a past relationship experience that has since sparked conversations online about consent, communication, and personal boundaries in modern dating.
In a post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, the man recounted dating a 20-year-old woman some years ago and how their differences around intimacy eventually led to a breakup.
According to him, the issues surfaced during her visits when they attempted to get intimate. While they engaged in foreplay, he said he often sensed reluctance from her and chose to stop each time he noticed hesitation.
“The second time, the same thing happened, and I don’t like stressing myself when it comes to intimacy,” he wrote.
After noticing a repeated pattern, he said he asked her why she always appeared unwilling. The young woman reportedly told him she had behaved the same way with her ex-boyfriend, whom she said had been her first sexual partner.
She allegedly explained that he needed to put in more effort to make her “give in,” and added that when she asked him to stop, he should not actually stop.
Firm Stand on Personal Boundaries
The man said he immediately rejected the suggestion, stressing that he was uncomfortable with the idea.
He stated that he did not want to risk being in a situation where he could later be accused of forcing himself on her.
“I told her straight that I don’t do that,” he wrote.
According to him, the relationship lasted only three months before he decided to end it.
The story has since generated mixed reactions online, with many users praising his decision to prioritise clear consent, while others pointed to the need for better communication and emotional maturity in relationships.
The discussion highlights the growing awareness around mutual consent and the importance of respecting boundaries in intimate situations.
