Nigerian Man Demolishes House Built for Mother-in-Law After Divorce, Sparks Online Debate

A Nigerian man has stirred heated reactions online after reportedly demolishing a house he built for his mother-in-law following his divorce.

The incident was shared by X (formerly Twitter) user @BolanleCole, who claimed that the man constructed a bungalow for his mother-in-law during his marriage. According to the post, the marriage lasted two years before the wife requested a divorce, allegedly stating that she had found “the man of her dreams.”

The viral tweet further alleged that shortly after the divorce papers were filed and signed, the man went to his former mother-in-law’s residence and demolished the bungalow he had built for her.

Sharing details of the incident, the X user wrote:

“A man named Okon Micheal had built a small bungalow for his mother-in-law. After two years of marriage, his now ex-wife requested a divorce, saying she had found the man of her dreams.

After the divorce papers were filed and signed, the man went straight to his mother-in-law’s place and demolished the house.”

The development has triggered widespread debate on social media, with users expressing mixed reactions. While some described the act as petty and emotionally driven, others argued that the man had the right to reclaim what he built.

Social Media Reactions

Reacting to the incident, God Dey wrote:

“He shouldn’t have destroyed it; he should have sold the house quietly and still have money in his account. But the guy mean o.”

Bucos commented:

Why not just evict her like every other tenant and maintain your property? Abi na the mother-in-law paint inside the house and you want her money gone too? Smart man, lol.”

The Diabetes Doctor added humorously:

There is nothing petty about it. He is helping the man of her dreams to clear the land to enable him build a BIG MANSION 😂😂.”

Adebayo noted:

“If he had done everything in his name, there wouldn’t be a need for this. All he might have needed was an eviction notice.”

Offering a different perspective, Self Love stated:

“In this case, I think the land belongs to the mother-in-law and her family. The man doesn’t have anything to do with the land where the demolished house was built.”

As the story continues to circulate online, it has reignited discussions around property ownership, emotional decisions after divorce, and the legal and moral boundaries of marital generosity.
