A young Nigerian woman has sparked widespread conversation on social media after revealing why she ended a long-standing friendship over what many have described as a disturbing display of classism.
The lady, identified on X (formerly Twitter) as @AdageorgeA, shared the incident in a lengthy post that has since gone viral, amassing over 70,000 views and thousands of reactions.
According to her account, the incident occurred during a casual outing with a close friend when a man approached them. She described the man as neatly dressed, calm, and polite, noting that he respectfully attempted to strike up a conversation. However, her friend abruptly cut him off, telling him they were busy.
After the man walked away, @AdageorgeA questioned her friend about her reaction. To her shock, her friend explained that she dismissed the man simply because he was holding a sachet of pure water.
The response reportedly left her unsettled.
She recalled asking her friend whether her father had never drunk pure water, a question that became a turning point in their relationship. According to her, that moment made her realize that her friend was assigning human value based on trivial and superficial markers.
Reflecting on the experience, she explained that it wasn’t about the man or the rejected conversation, but about the mindset behind the action.
