Nigerian Lady Deletes Childhood Friend’s Number Over Feelings of Comparison and Inadequacy

A Nigerian woman has generated conversation on social media after disclosing that she deleted her childhood friend’s phone number due to feelings of inadequacy and constant comparison.

The woman, known on X (formerly Twitter) as @girlsMum1, shared that she chose to remove her friend’s contact because viewing her WhatsApp status regularly made her reflect on the differences in their current circumstances.

In her post, she explained that her friend appears to be thriving — running a stable business, enjoying a healthy relationship, and seemingly progressing in life — while she, on the other hand, feels she is struggling in several areas.

She wrote:

“I deleted my childhood friend’s number today because I didn’t want to see her WhatsApp status anymore. She seems to be doing well for herself — a stable business, a healthy relationship, basically everything. Meanwhile, I’m on the other end, struggling with almost everything in my life. I know I shouldn’t compare, but deep down it keeps coming up.”

Although she emphasized that she is genuinely happy for her friend’s success, she admitted that it still hurts to witness someone she grew up with appearing to be ahead in life.

She concluded by asking whether her decision and feelings make her a bad person, sparking mixed reactions and discussions among social media users.
