The Government of the Sahel Region Climate Commission (SRCC) has chosen Nigeria to host the Sahel Climate Fund Secretariat.
The selection is contained in a communique issued at the conclusion of the SRCC’s second conference of Heads of State and Government.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 36th AU Summit, also confirmed Issifi Boureim of Niger Republic as Executive Secretary of the Commission.
Boureim was the Coordinator of the Commission’s Transitory Operational Framework prior to his appointment.
The appointment is for a three-year term that is not renewable, with no opportunity for future terms.
Nigeria has expressed interest in hosting the Sahel Climate Fund’s headquarters, according to President Muhammadu Buhari.
The “Sahel Climate Fund” is the Sahel Region Climate Commission’s financial arm (SRCC).
