Dr. Ngonzi Okonjo Iweala, former Minister of Finance of Nigeria, has revealed what she noticed in her polling unit while voting on February 25, 2023.
On Saturday, Nigeria held its seventh consecutive democratic election, and Okonjo Iweala returned home to perform her civic duties.
The Director-General of the World Trade Organization, WTO, has since returned to Geneva, Switzerland, but not before revealing what she perceived to be unusual.
On Saturday, Nigerian youths turned out in large numbers to vote for their preferred presidential and National Assembly candidates. It was the first time in the country that an election drew such a large number of young people.
Okonjo Iweala stated that “all” of the young people in her village of Umuda Isingwu in Umuahia, Abia state, voted and that the election was mostly peaceful.
“Back in Geneva, happy to have voted & to see Nigeria’s youth in action! All the young people in my village had PVCs and voted.
“Despite some challenges, thank God for a largely peaceful election. We pray for peace to prevail. Wishing all of us & Nigeria well at this important time,” she wrote.
