A 26-year-old newly married woman has sparked intense reactions online after revealing that her husband allegedly deceived her about his real age before they got married.
The woman, identified as @Idarabasimi on X (formerly Twitter), shared her heartbreaking experience in an emotional post that has since gone viral.
According to her, she got married in December after dating a man who consistently told her he was 34 years old. Trusting his words, she proceeded with the relationship and eventually marriage, believing they were close in age and could build a future together.
However, her world reportedly came crashing down when she recently stumbled upon her husband’s official documents while going through his files. Among the documents was his international passport, which revealed his year of birth as 1972 — indicating that he is actually 51 years old.
The shocking discovery left her deeply emotional. She revealed that she had been crying non-stop since realizing that the man she married is almost twice her age.
Things reportedly became worse when she confronted her husband about the discovery. Instead of offering clarity, the man allegedly dismissed her concerns, telling her that “age is just a number” and shockingly claiming that he didn’t even know he was already 51 years old. His response, she said, only deepened her pain and confusion.
Lamenting her situation, the woman expressed deep regret over her decision, noting that she had earlier rejected a 37-year-old suitor, only to end up marrying a much older man who she believes deliberately deceived her.
She also shared her fears about the future, pointing out that in just ten years, her husband would be in his sixties while she would still be in her thirties — a reality she says she never planned for.
In her words, she wrote:
“I am a young girl of 26 years who got married in December.
My husband told me he was 34 years old when we were dating.
Today, I was going through his file and documents and saw his passport where his birth year was stated as 1972.
This means he is 51 years old.
I have been crying since I stumbled on this. When I confronted, he said age is just a number and that he didn’t know he was up to 51 years old. Can you imagine?
In 10 years, he will be 61 years old while I will be 36 years.
He has apologised but will I ever forgive myself for making this type of mistake?
I rejected a 37-year-old man, a 51-year-old man deceived me and married me.
Will I ever forget about this? Should I go for a divorce?
I never planned for this type of life. Not that he is rich, I only married him to build with him.”
Her story has since generated mixed reactions online, with many social media users debating trust, honesty in relationships, age gaps in marriage, and whether deception before marriage is enough grounds for divorce.
