President Muhammadu Buhari will convene an emergency meeting of the Council of State on Friday to discuss the nation’s crises, including the naira, petrol scarcity, and insecurity ahead of the February 25 presidential election.
The meeting will be extended at 10 a.m. on Friday by the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Independence National Electoral Commission.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, and INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmud Yakubu, are also expected to brief the council on the preparations for the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections, as well as the March 11 governorship and house of assembly elections.
The meeting will make important decisions to defuse tensions ahead of the elections and avert a potential national crisis caused by a lack of new naira notes.
The National Council of State is a Nigerian government organ whose functions include policy advice to the executive.
