Delta State bankers took turns scaling the bank fence to flee attacks after customers demonstrated their willingness to violently protest naira scarcity and the failure to facilitate over-the-counter and electronic cash withdrawals.
A viral video, believed to have been shot in Delta State, South-South Nigeria, shows many bank employees attempting to scale the back fence as angry customers stormed the bank to protest the lack of new and old naira notes in the banking hall and Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).

The bankers, who were fleeing with their belongings, were seen cooperating as they used a ladder to climb up the fence and descend into a nearby bush.
As women among them were assisted to flee first, some of them were heard expressing fears that they would be apprehended. A male voice could be heard assuring the worried others that the “Delta Patrol Team” was on their way and that the mob would not be able to enter the bank until the team arrived.
As the bank staff continued their desperate escape, some knocking sounds could be heard in the background, ostensibly from angry customers attempting to break in.
Tensions have been rising across the country as banks deal with challenges related to Naira scarcity, even as the CBN’s revised February 10 deadline for old notes approaches.
