A Nigerian woman has opened up about the emotional conclusion of her marriage, nearly two years after she walked away from the union.
In a video shared on TikTok, the lady identified as @miss.ijay revealed that her marriage was formally dissolved after her bride price was returned to her former husband’s family — a traditional act that signifies the complete end of a marriage.
She shared the story alongside a throwback video recorded on the very day the bride price was returned, describing it as the moment the marriage truly ended, seven years after it began.
According to her, the process initially went smoothly and without tension. However, emotions reportedly took over when the reality of the situation dawned on her former husband.
She disclosed that he broke down in tears during the proceedings as the significance of the bride price return became clear to him.
Despite the emotional moment, the woman said her mind had long been made up. She explained that she had already decided to leave the marriage well before that day, and the event did not cause her to reconsider.
Instead, she said it confirmed that the chapter had been permanently closed.
In her words:
“My bride price was paid in December 2016. My bride price was returned in December 2023. This video was made on my bride price return day. My ‘husband’ couldn’t stop crying. That was when it actually dawned on him that I was really walking out of the marriage.”
