Nigerian parents spark debate online after organizing an extravagant surprise birthday celebration for their daughter at her school.
In a social media video that went viral, the young girl was brought to tears when her parents showed up out of the blue with a cake, a bouquet of cash, a note, and even a trumpet player to celebrate.
Her mother, who works as a baker, posted the touching video to TikTok under the handle @helescakes, explaining how the surprise was organized.
She wrote, “My daughter was going to school, and she demanded our Fresh2go cake with her favorite flavors to share with her classmates, as the previous day was her birthday and they didn’t go to school.
“Her dad and I, along with two of her siblings, decided to deliver the cake to her in style. 
She forgot her mum is the Queen of surprises! 
My family and I really want to appreciate everyone that celebrated our daughter on her birthday.”
Social media users had varying opinions about the video when it went viral. While many applauded the parents for making their daughter feel special, others took issue with the extravagant display, claiming that big surprises like this could unnecessarily burden other students whose parents might not be able to afford such festivities.

There is a serious parenting problem in Nigeria and this values are passed down to the next generation. Not everyone who is married has sense and marriage doesn’t automatically make you wise or better-knowing than one who is single.”
JimRezzz stated: “She can never forget this in her whole life. No boy can impress her with type of birthday surprise, cause her dad has already showed her what it is to be loved.”
