Mental Health: Chidimma on why she deleted her Twitter account

Chidimma Adetshina, the reigning Miss Universe Nigeria, discusses her motivations for deleting her Twitter account in response to criticism regarding her nationality and the controversy surrounding her victory.

This interview comes after Chidimma withdrew from the Miss South Africa pageant due to a prima facie case of fraud and identity theft against her mother, according to the South African Home Office.

Speaking on Arise 360, the South African-Nigerian beauty queen revealed that she had to quit the platform due to the excessive and frequently unfavorable comments.

She stressed that the negativity had negatively impacted her mental health, and that she felt relief after deleting the app.

“I had to delete it because I felt like it was too much for me. I’m a comment reader so I read each and every comment; that’s the thing. So for me, I could spend 80% of my day reading comments. I’d read the comments and all and it became toxic for me. I use Instagram, but I once restricted my comment section,” Adetshina said.

The beauty queen acknowledged her fans’ support and thanked them, but she also warned of the dangers of sticking by her.

“People will occasionally say in the comment section, ‘I really like you, but I do not want to put my feelings out there.’ This is understandable because they will often feel dragged when they support me. I do not want anyone to experience that as a result of their support for me,” she remarked.
