Many feared dead as vehicle plows into Anambra market

Anambra State’s Njikoka Local Government Area’s Oye-Agu Market, Abagana, was struck by a speeding car, causing multiple people to be fearfully killed.

It was reported that the incident happened on Wednesday at approximately 11:10 am, resulting in multiple traders’ items spilling onto the road.

Some of the roadside vendors were crushed when the driver of the Toyota Sienna lost control of the brakes and slammed into the market, according to witnesses who were close to the scene.

Details of the crash and the actual casualty figure are still sketchy.

However, the incident has caused panic and crowded scenes in the market environs with various rescue efforts ongoing.

Some of the injured victims were being rushed to a nearby hospital.

Three people died in the crash, including a young child, according to President-General of the Abagana Community Ben Okongwu, who confirmed the event to reporters. A few other people also suffered minor injuries.

When contacted, Margaret Onabe, the Federal Road Safety Corps spokesperson in Anambra State, claimed she was unaware of the incident but that she would look into it and get back to her.
