Man’s Old Political Post Resurfaces as He Seeks Help to Pay ₦1.5m Rent

A Nigerian man has become the centre of online discussion after an old political post he made resurfaced alongside a recent appeal for financial assistance, highlighting a sharp contrast between past confidence and his current hardship.

In September 2023, the man had taken to X (formerly Twitter) to boldly declare that President Bola Tinubu would remain Nigeria’s leader for the next eight years.

Nearly three years later, however, he returned to the same platform with a very different message.

In a recent post, the man revealed that his family was facing eviction after falling behind on rent payments. According to him, his ₦1.5 million annual rent has been overdue since November 2025.

Describing the situation as overwhelming, he appealed to the public for financial assistance. He asked well-wishers to support him with donations of ₦10,000, ₦50,000, or ₦100,000 and shared his bank account details for contributions.

The man admitted he had reached his financial limit and expressed appreciation to anyone willing to help. He later posted a follow-up message thanking donors who had already contributed toward easing the burden.

The situation gained further traction online after a woman reposted screenshots of both his old political statement and his recent plea side by side.

Amused by the contrast, she mocked him publicly, questioning how someone who once projected such strong political certainty could later find himself asking strangers for help to pay rent.

Her reaction quickly sparked mixed responses across social media.

Reactions Online

Several social media users shared their opinions on the situation.

Chinedu Okeke wrote, “Life can humble anyone. Instead of mocking him, people should show empathy because many Nigerians are struggling right now.”

Aisha Bello commented, “This is exactly why people say don’t mix politics with personal pride. Today you praise a leader, tomorrow you might still face hardship.”

Tunde Adebayo reacted with sarcasm, saying, “So the eight years prophecy did not include eight years of financial stability? Social media never forgets.”

Grace Johnson urged compassion, writing, “We should stop laughing at people’s problems. Hard times can come for anyone.”

Emeka Nwafor added, “Nigeria’s economy has affected almost everyone. Political opinions don’t protect anyone from reality.”

The debate continues online, with some users defending the man while others insist that the resurfaced post reflects the irony of his current situation.
