Man Shares How Becoming a “House Husband” for His Wife Changed Their Lives and Led to Success Abroad

A man has sparked widespread discussion online after recounting how leaving his job as a primary school teacher to follow his wife to another state eventually transformed their lives and led them to financial success abroad. 🌍

According to him, he was earning about ₦60,000 per month as a teacher when he decided to marry his wife. Shortly before their wedding, she secured a well-paying job in another state, forcing the couple to make a difficult decision about their future.

The man explained that they did not want to start their marriage with a long-distance relationship, so one of them had to quit their job.

After discussing it together, he chose to resign from his teaching position and relocate with his wife to the state where she worked.

He admitted the decision was not easy because of strong cultural expectations that wives are usually the ones expected to move to their husband’s location after marriage.

“It was not an easy decision because of the cultural belief that women should be the ones to follow their husbands. But I did not let culture or ego stop me. I followed her,” he said.

After relocating, the man took on the role of managing the home while his wife focused on her career. During that period, he described himself as a “house husband,” handling chores such as cooking, cleaning, and maintaining the home.

He said his goal was to ensure his wife did not feel overwhelmed by the pressure of work.

According to him, his wife trusted him completely and even gave him her ATM card so he could manage their finances despite being the one earning the salary.

He revealed that he handled their household expenses and sometimes even gave his wife allowance for her personal needs from the same income.

Importantly, he said his wife never disrespected him or made him feel less of a man because he was not earning at the time.

Instead, she supported him and later introduced him to business opportunities through her connections.

One of those deals, he said, paid more than her monthly salary and became a major turning point in his life.

From there, he eventually secured a job and began earning significantly, greatly improving their financial situation.

Reflecting on the journey, the man said putting aside pride and cultural expectations played a key role in their success.

According to him, marriage should be about partnership rather than competition over who earns more.

Whoever earns the most money does not matter. What matters is that money is being made,” he said.

Today, the couple live abroad with their three children — a life he believes became possible because he chose partnership over ego.
