After his manager learned that he was pursuing a master’s degree in cybersecurity, a Nigerian man was let go from his position as a cleaner in the United Kingdom.
He talked about the experience and the events that transpired on his social media page, X (formerly Twitter).
His post states that his African supervisor inquired about his background on his first day of work.
The man disclosed that he was working as a cleaner in the interim while he pursued a master’s degree in cybersecurity in order to find employment in his field.
The manager then fired him after the supervisor informed him of this information.
In his post, he wrote: “I was working as a cleaner one time. On my first day, the woman (African) supervising me asked about my background.”
“I told her I was doing my Master’s in cybersecurity and only working as a cleaner temporarily before finding a job in my field. She reported me to the Manager straight away.”
He continued, “The manager came looking for me and told me she doesn’t think I can do the job. In the end, they chased me away We are killing ourselves as Africans.”
Widespread outrage was generated by the post, and worried people flocked to the comments section to express their opinions.

@thejaymizy: “The fact that you don’t see that you were the problem is this scenario is shocking to me. You thought it was okay to belittle a job that was your means and you also thought it necessary to explain that if you had a choice you wouldn’t do that job lol.”
@Malbuild: “That must have hurt her, though, because that is what she does to earn a living here. But, I believe you were simply expressing yourself freely.”
@ebalheem: “I swear you gentle oooo, me before I leave will make sure I slap the hell out of that African woman. She go chop two slap and nothing go happen.”
@jerrywhyte: “Know of someone who moved from B4 to B7 in 9 months because the line manager during a conversation discovered he had so much to offer and support him until he leaves to another dept.”
