Concerns about an imminent tragedy have been aroused by a Nigerian man who claims that a landlord in Oworonshoki, Lagos, started leasing out a crumbling building to new tenants.
This was revealed in a post currently making waves on the popular social media platform, X, formerly known as Twitter.
The man, believed to be a resident of the area, claimed that the building has shown clear signs of structural failure and could collapse at any moment.
According to him, the landlord had previously instructed all tenants to vacate the property in 2024 due to safety concerns.
However, to his shock, the landlord has now started renting the same property to new tenants despite the visible warning signs.
In a bid to draw public attention and prompt intervention from the Lagos State Government, the man reached out to a popular media influencer, urging him to help publicize the issue and prevent a potential disaster.
His message reads: “Good morning Mr. Morris, Please, there’s a sinking two-storey building in Oworonshoki, Lagos. I’m afraid it will collapse soon. The landlord told all occupants to leave in 2024 because he planned to demolish it, but to everyone’s surprise, he’s already renting out the apartments to new tenants.”
“I’m afraid something tragic will happen soon if nothing is done. I have videos to back up my claims. Please, I want you to share this for wider visibility so the Lagos State Government can take action.”
As the post gained traction online, concerned Nigerians flooded the comment section to share their thoughts and express their fears.
See some reactions below:
@Iamkolotayo: “It’s still a shock how I stayed for 2 years in this house. Same old story. I am afraid this is true about the sinking. I stay on the First floor and each time it’s raining, it’s a lot of work draining water. First floor o.”
@Eddiechuks3: “To think that a whole thread was done regarding this house some time ago yet nothing has been done. Does that mean it hasn’t gotten to the attention of the constituted authority?”
@WandeBlitz: “Person wey get the house fit get mouth otherwise why won’t the govt done nothing about it.”
@Promiseidode: “Stayed in that area all my life…these claims are true …I pity new comers 💔…A**ndele shouldn’t give Oworo a bad name abeg.”
@BuilderSanmi: “Most Houses around Oworo, Ogudu, are in distress form because of the low bearing soil capacity for those areas and inappropriate foundations used in constructing most of the building. They’re all tilting as we speak and would eventually either collapse or be demolished.”
@BolarinwAbiola: “I lived in this house in 2019. It’s been sinking since. The entire ground floor was already inhabitable as at 2019.”
@frickyB: “I know this house, if not that night has fallen i would have taken a picture of it for you.”
@OduntanDaniel1: “Akindele dine and wine with @OfficialAPCNg King and this single act have made him sooooooo powerful in Oworosoki…So I don’t think any Lagos authority can just come and invade his property just like that cuz alot of authority have tried it and they got a big blow.”
