A Nigerian X (formerly Twitter) user, @sidney-sbm, shared a heartbreaking story of losing ₦35 million to gambling after selling his family’s inherited land.
According to him, his gambling journey started with a small ₦5,000 loss on Aviator before moving on to instant virtual games. Over the course of two months, he ended up losing the entire ₦35 million, prompting him to borrow money to cover losses.
He recounted the devastating moment his family discovered what had happened:
“The day my family found out was the day I understood what shame feels like physically. My father didn’t shout. That was worse. My mother cried like someone had died. In a way, someone had the version of me they trusted.”
Reflecting on his experience, he added:
“I stopped gambling not because I lost money but because I finally realized I was the one being played.”
His story has sparked discussions online about the dangers of gambling and the emotional toll it can take on families.
