A Nigerian man who lost ₦100,000 to a scammer posing as a Jumia agent while trying to buy a mobile phone has taken to social media to express his sorrow.
The man described his experience of being duped in a string of posts on X (formerly Twitter).
He explained that he had attempted to place an online phone order and conversed with a person posing as a Jumia agent because he thought he had discovered a trustworthy source.
After a few conversations, the scammer asked for a ₦50,000 down payment in order to complete the transaction.
According to their chat, he was asked to send an extra ₦50,000 shortly after for unspecified reasons.
But after paying twice, he discovered that no order had been fulfilled, indicating that he had been duped. Frustrated, he took to social media to share his ordeal and seek help.
As his post gained traction, concerned individuals flooded the comment section, sharing their thoughts and warning others to be cautious of similar scams.
