Man Exposes Fuel Attendant After Alleged ₦20,000 Fuel Scam in Viral Video

A Nigerian man has shared a heartbreaking encounter at a filling station after attempting to purchase ₦20,000 worth of fuel.

In a now-viral video posted on X (formerly Twitter), the man—who was wearing Meta smart glasses—captured what transpired without the knowledge of the fuel attendant.

According to the footage, the attendant allegedly set the fuel dispenser to ₦5,500 while the man was making payment through a point-of-sale (POS) machine.

Sensing something was wrong, the man immediately insisted that the fuel be returned and demanded a full refund.

The situation took a dramatic turn when he presented video evidence of the transaction. Upon reviewing the footage, the attendant and others at the station reportedly apologized.

During the heated exchange, the man demanded to see the station manager, saying:

No one called my attention. How can I be paying and I’m looking back, someone is already pouring fuel?”

The incident comes at a time when Nigerians are already grappling with rising fuel costs. Reports indicate that Dangote Refinery recently increased its gantry price for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to ₦1,175 per litre, pushing pump prices above ₦1,200 per litre in some areas.

Reactions Trailing the Incident

The video has since sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians sharing similar experiences and frustrations:

Zoba: “It’s not possible oga, as long as she picked up the nozzle it resets.”

Nommy: “This thing these fuel attendants do is really heartbreaking. They are so greedy… they keep manipulating their pumps to shortchange us, upon how high the cost of fuel is.”

Frank Henry: “Me to the meter anytime I want to buy fuel cos these attendants are criminals.”

Royal: “If filling stations introduce self-service where you use your card before pumping, people will complain about job losses.”

The incident has further fueled concerns about transparency and trust at filling stations across Nigeria, especially amid the ongoing fuel price hike.
