Man drowns in Lagos river after taking hard drugs

From Punch

A 45-year-old man named Kazeem, who lived in the border community of Odo Tente between Lagos and Ogun States, drowned in a river.

It was learnt that the incident occurred on Friday around 11 am.

Kazeem was reported to have taken a hard drug—possibly Colorado—prior to the incident.

After taking the drug, the deceased allegedly began acting strangely and ran out of control before jumping into the river.

In a statement released on Sunday, Benjamin Hundeyin, the public relations officer for the Lagos State Police, confirmed the incident and said that he drowned in the process.

The statement read, “On 11/10/2024 at about 11 am, a complainant reported at Alagbado Division that one Kazeem, ‘M’ aged 45, under the influence of a hard drug suspected to be Colorado, ran uncontrollably and jumped into a river at Odo Tente boundary between Lagos and Ogun State. Sequel to this, the victim drowned and died.”

Hundeyin further stated that detectives from the Alagbado Division visited the scene and took photographs of the deceased.

According to the police spokesman, the deceased’s father instructed that the body be buried by the riverside right away in accordance with their custom after being contacted.

He did point out that a police investigation into the incident had been launched.
