A Nigerian man has been left heartbroken after his fiancée, whom he proposed to on Valentine’s Day, told him she has fallen out of love with him and offered to return the engagement ring.
The story, which surfaced on X (formerly Twitter), was shared anonymously by the man as he recounted his emotional ordeal.
According to him, he recently proposed to his girlfriend, only for her to inform him that she no longer has feelings for him. To make matters worse, she asked him to come and retrieve the engagement ring.
He wrote:
“My lady, whom I told you a few weeks ago I got engaged to, just told me she has fallen out of love and asked me to come and take back the ring. She wants to call everything off.”
“I told her to send it immediately. I can’t beg a woman to be with me, and I won’t try to convince her—that would be beneath me. Though I’m hurt, I’ll get over it. God knows why it happened.”
“I have informed her parents about what their daughter told me. They asked me to give them some time to discuss it with her since she hasn’t informed them yet. But my decision remains firm because she made it clear that she no longer loves me.”
Providing an update on how he handled the situation, he later wrote:
“Good afternoon, sir. I’ve sent a dispatch rider to collect the ring because I’m not in the country and won’t be back soon. No time to waste—I’ll just sell it and use the money for other things.”
As the post gained traction online, social media users flooded the comments section, sharing their thoughts on the situation.
