Man arrested for recording police shares how generator thief outsmarted DPO in Uyo

A Nigerian man has narrated how he was arrested for recording the police and detained overnight, during which he heard a striking story of how a suspect outsmarted a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Uyo.

The account, shared by the man identified as weotiktok on a popular social media platform, details both his own arrest and an unusual encounter with a fellow detainee.

According to him, trouble began after he filmed police officers while they were making an arrest. One of the officers noticed, seized his phone, and bundled him into their vehicle. He spent the night in a police cell before his brother secured his release with the help of a lawyer.

Although he described the experience as “nice” in its own way, he admitted it was not something he ever wished to go through again.

While in detention, he recounted meeting a man who had been arrested alongside others for allegedly stealing a generator.

The suspect shared how he once tricked the DPO during interrogation.

In his words: “The DPO called him into the office and asked, ‘Where are your colleagues? Just show them to us and we’ll release you.’”

“The guy said he hadn’t eaten for three days, so if he could just eat first, he would reveal everything. The DPO ordered white soup and bottled water for him, and he ate at the DPO’s own table.”

“After eating, the DPO assigned officers to escort him so he could identify his colleagues. They entered the police van and he directed them all the way to Ikot Ekpene — almost an hour’s drive.”

On getting there, the officers asked him for the exact location, but he replied that he never said Ikot Ekpene, only Ikot Ekpene Road. The team had no choice but to return to the station.

When they got back, the DPO told him, ‘You will suffer in this cell.’

The man who shared the story noted that he heard several other wild accounts during his short stay in custody.

As his video surfaced online, social media users stormed the comment section to react, with many expressing shock and amusement over the generator theft suspect’s boldness.
