Nollywood actress Lilian Esoro has spoken candidly about her battle with depression following the dissolution of her marriage to talent manager Ubi Franklin.
In a recent interview, Lilian Esoro revealed something that many people are unaware of: “My marriage had been shaky from engagement. Some people are adamant that the marriage shouldn’t have taken place at all. But now that I stop to think about it, I chose wisely.
“Now, my son is very important to me. With everything that happened, when I want to feel sad, I show that. Social media is trying to push the narrative that marriage isn’t important but actually is.
“I was reading something and a working lady was saying it was until she got married that people started respecting her. The reason people see marriage as a problem is that we’ve lost time having conversations.
“Go out for dinner anywhere and everyone is on their phone when dinner is meant for you to see the environment and reminisce on things. People are scared from the beginning of relationships to let the other know about them.”
In case you forgot, Ubi tried to get a divorce in an Abuja court, but the judge dismissed the case. The divorce was finally finalized on January 28th, 2021, with Lilian receiving custody of Jayden.
The couple’s protracted divorce proceedings had a negative impact on Lilian’s mental health.
She had to get help because she fell into depression. On Monday, December 5th, 2022, she sought assistance and made the decision to discuss her problems during a rare Instagram LIVE session with Pastor Bolaji Idowu, the Lead Pastor of Harvesters International Christian Centre (HICC).
She was talking about her problems for the first time, and the conversation was illuminating because she was open about her depression and the steps she took to recover from it.
