Lautaro Martinez extends contract with Inter until 2029

After agreeing to a new deal that will keep him with the Serie A winners until 2029, Lautaro Martinez made Inter Milan his home team on Monday.

“FC Internazionale Milano can confirm that an agreement has been reached to extend Lautaro Martinez’s contract. The forward, who was born in 1997, has signed a contract that will expire on June 30, 2029, according to a statement from Inter.

The Argentine striker Lautaro has extended his contract, which was supposed to expire in two years, and is now expected to receive a net salary of nine million euros ($9.8 million) per season.

Giuseppe Marotta, the Inter president, stated last month that although Lautaro had already consented to sign his new contract, the club would not make the announcement until he returned from his post-Copa America vacation.

Lautaro was key to Argentina retaining the Copa America, netting five times including the only goal in the final triumph over Colombia.

International glory for the 26-year-old came after he helped power Inter to their second Serie A title in four seasons, finishing their triumphant campaign a whopping 19 points ahead of local rivals AC Milan.

With 24 goals in 33 league games, the Inter captain led the scoring charts by eight goals over his closest competitor, Dusan Vlahovic.

Lautaro confirming his intention to stay at Inter is a huge boost for a club which headed into the close season in uncertain mood after a sudden change in ownership.

Investment fund Oaktree took control of Inter just days after they won their 20th league crown, when previous owners Suning defaulted on repayment of a loan which matured at 395 million euros.

After removing former president Steven Zhang and Chinese conglomerate Suning, under whose leadership Inter won seven trophies, including two Serie A titles, and advanced to two European finals, Oaktree has chosen continuity over revolution.

This month, Inter’s coach Simone Inzaghi extended his contract until 2026, and ahead of Euro 2024, star midfielder Nicolo Barella inked a new contract that would keep him there until 2029. Inter begin their league title defence at Genoa on Saturday.
