A young woman from Nigeria named Zahrah (@missbuttacup_) has publicly criticized her father for what she claims is a pattern of favoritism and misogyny toward male children.
Zahrah described how her father disregarded her request for a laptop during her last year of college, when she was working on her thesis, in a series of heartfelt posts posted on her X (formerly Twitter) account.
But she was taken aback to learn that he had just bought for her younger brother, who is only in his second year, a luxury laptop.
“My father will reap the wickedness he has started. Asked this bastard for a laptop in my final year while I was writing my thesis, he aired me but my younger brother just got an expensive laptop in his second year in uni,” she wrote.
The visibly upset lady further accused her father of neglecting his responsibilities toward his daughters while allegedly favoring his sons.
“Btw this rat has refused to pay my sister’s school fees, but he is splurging on his male children. Anyway I know my money is for my sisters and no one else. My brothers can hustle for their money,” she added.
Zahrah concluded her posts by reaffirming her emotional disconnect from her father, saying:
“Born to beat up my father, forced to crash out on the internet.”
Zahrah’s tweets have since gone viral, drawing mixed reactions from users online.
A social media user @Kizzy_of_kwasu reacted, “Your father dodged a bullet by not buying you that laptop, imagine funding a thesis only for it to end in online curses and bitterness. The man saw your heart and chose peace. Sometimes parents invest where they see potential, not where they see venom. Heal.”
Another user @ogunmusi said, “Independent enough to put Multiple piercings on your Face but not independent enough to buy your own Laptop? He is even still paying your school Fees, He is a good man.”
