On Saturday, Republican Kevin McCarthy became the speaker of the US House of Representatives after overcoming a number of political obstacles.
After Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden, McCarthy has gained prominence and is now the third most influential person in the US.
McCarthy promised that House Republicans would “pass bills to fix the nation’s challenges, from the wide open southern border to ‘America last’ energy policies, to woke indoctrination in our schools,” according to AP. McCarthy was given the gavel as he took it.
Before McCarthy, who was born in Bakersfield, California, won the US House of Representatives gavel duel, there was a remarkable 15th round of voting.
