JUST IN: A fire destroys the Lagos market of Balogun

A fire has destroyed a building in Lagos State’s popular Balogun market.

Only three months ago, The Nation reported that a fire broke out at the Balogun market, destroying several million-dollar items. 

On Thursday morning, a fire broke out in one of the popular market buildings. 

As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire could not be determined.

The Lagos State Emergency Agency and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services said they responded to a distress call about the fire. 

According to a statement issued by the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, titled “Situation report on the fire outbreak at Broad Street, Lagos Island,”

He said, “The agency responded to distress calls concerning the fire incident involving some shops on the ground floor of a three-story building.

“The cause of the fire cannot be ascertained as no casualty was involved,” he added.

The agency’s response team is on the scene, along with two Lagos State fire service trucks, two LRU fire trucks, and police, all working together to put out the fire.
