Balaraba Shehu, 30, and her 25-year-old lover, Amadu Sale alias Dan Kwairo, were arrested by police on Sunday for burying their newborn baby alive in Jigawa State’s Kiyawa Local Government Area.
While sharing more details on the incident, State Police Spokesman DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam revealed that the command exhumed the corpse of the newborn baby on 02/12/2022, at about 2350 hrs, after Balaraba of Tsurma village in Kiyawa LGA was suspected of giving birth and burying the newborn baby alive.
After receiving a report, the command dispatched security personnel to the crime scene, according to the spokesman.
Shiisu explained that once the detectives arrived on the scene, they swung into action and exhumed the newborn baby buried in the toilet.
According to the PPRO, the suspect was apprehended, and the baby was rushed to General Hospital Dutse and declared dead by a medical doctor.
Shilsu went on to say that preliminary investigations led to the arrest of Dan kwairo of Akar village in Kiyawa LGA, who was suspected of being responsible for the unwanted pregnancy.
However, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ekot Effiom, directed that the case be transferred to SCID Dutse for a confidential investigation.
