James Brown’s Church Deliverance Sparks Mixed Reactions Online

Popular Nigerian social media personality, James Brown, has set social media abuzz after videos emerged showing him attending a church service for deliverance, a move he says marks a turning point in his life.

In the now-viral clips, James Brown was seen actively participating in church activities, reportedly after deciding to repent from his past lifestyle. The development immediately triggered widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing surprise, skepticism, criticism, and cautious support.

Explaining his decision, James Brown shared a deeply personal reflection, saying that since the beginning of the year, he has been experiencing intense spiritual revelations through his dreams.

“Since I resumed this year, my spirit has been speaking loudly through my dreams. And it reminded me of something very real: being known, being visible, being famous is not just physical, it is spiritual,” he said.

“The whole world sees you. Lovers see you. Enemies see you. Your image travels places you don’t even know. You don’t know where your pictures have been taken to or used for.”

According to him, these realizations pushed him to make a firm decision to return fully to church for spiritual covering.

“I told myself that this is the time. This is the right time to return fully to church, to cover myself spiritually,” he added.

While some Nigerians applauded the move as a step towards self-awareness and personal growth, others were less convinced, questioning both the style of the deliverance and the religious environment where it took place.

Social media reactions

Reacting to the videos, users shared a mix of humour, criticism, and concern:

@Erhiga11 wrote: “Is it the same Jesus that I am serving that they are calling with candle, Fanta and coconut?”

@ifetemini commented: “Wendy never ready, went for deliverance wearing a woman’s sutana.”

@adejare_ste said: “It’s good that James Brown has decided to return to church and seek deliverance, but turning yourself into a female for clout and money is not something to applaud. Repentance is good, but that lifestyle misled many young people.”

@Tundex644 added: “Na this kind shepherd dey make people dey talk bad about Celestial. Once it’s time to put past their miserable past life, they know their way to CCC.”

The incident has since reignited broader conversations online around repentance, religion, clout culture, spiritual accountability, and personal transformation, especially among Nigerian celebrities constantly in the public eye.

As the debate continues, many observers agree on one point: James Brown’s decision has once again placed the spotlight on the complex intersection of fame, faith, and identity in Nigeria’s social media era.
