JAMB reminds candidates not to accept admissions outside of CAPS.

Once more, applicants are cautioned by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) not to accept admissions from postsecondary institutions that are not part of its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).

The nation’s tertiary institutions’ admissions agency also reminded institutions to hasten the disclosure of admissions they offered outside CAPS between 2017 and 2023, saying there were severe consequences for violations.

In a statement released on Thursday by its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, the board stated that it has seen a significant influx of candidates visiting its offices to address matters concerning the disclosure of applicants admitted outside of the Central Admissions Processing System, or CAPS, between 2017 and the present.

The full text of the statement was as follows: “From 2017 to the present, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has noticed a significant influx of candidates visiting its offices seeking resolutions regarding the disclosure of candidates admitted outside the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).” While we appreciate the enthusiasm, we must correct the misconception that the focus is on candidates’ actions.

“The real focus is on the institutions; they have until August 31, 2024, to reveal the names of all admitted candidates who were not part of CAPS. This directive requires immediate attention and compliance.

“We implore institutions to carefully consider our first letter and make sure that all requirements are met, since withholding information will have dire repercussions. The reminder to not accept admissions outside of CAPS is also sent to candidates.

“The Board reaffirmed that it would not consider candidates who had not been disclosed by their institutions. Going forward, the Board will not accept any condonation of undisclosed admissions.
