Ikoyi cleaner caught stealing phone worth ₦700k

A cleaner hired temporarily at Padel House, a sports center in the Ikoyi area of Lagos, has landed in trouble after stealing a Samsung phone reportedly worth ₦700,000.

He framed an innocent security guard in an effort to shift the blame.

The theft reportedly happened not long after the cleaner returned to work at the establishment.

He stole the costly gadget and, in an effort to evade detection, discreetly gave it to an accomplice outside the building rather than completing his assigned tasks.

At first, a security guard who was on duty at the time was suspected because everything seemed to be pointing toward him.

But soon after, an internal investigation was started, and the truth quickly came to light.

The cleaner confessed to the crime after being confronted. His admission helped the guard’s reputation to be restored when the stolen phone was eventually found.

Since then, the incident has gone viral online and sparked outrage from the public.

See some reactions below:

@bahyomii: “May God vindicate us from any form of false accusation. Imagine if they had punished that security officer for something he knew nothing about.”

@greengizie: “Because hunger dey no mean say make u turn thief. There is a huge difference.”

@billi4eva: “But why is stealing the latest job in town and it’s unisex.”
