“I was offered N100m to step down,” reveals the 33-year-old teacher who ended Yobe Speaker’s ambition for a sixth term

Lawan Musa Majakura, a 33-year-old volunteer teacher who defeated Ahmed Mirwa Lawan, Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, in the recently concluded Governorship and State Assembly elections, claims he was offered N100 million to resign.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate received 6,648 votes, defeating All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Ahmed Lawan, who received 6,466 votes.

In a recent interview with Daily Trust, the father of four made this startling revelation, revealing that he received the offer from a government official and others who urged him to step down for the incumbent speaker, who had held the position for five terms.

He claims that he was initially offered N18 million, which he turned down, and that the offer was later increased to N100 million.

In his words,

“To be honest with you, he did not contact me to step down for Lahim by himself, but a government official and some people I thought were his representatives came to me two times, telling me to step down. They promised to give me N18 Million, but I refused. Later on, they came back and offered me N100m, but still I refused.

“I told them that my village people bought the nomination forms for me because they believed I would do better, so I did not see any reason to step down for anybody. I told them to meet my people if they actually wanted me to step down for whoever sent them to me. I even told my people what we discussed but we all agreed that I would not step down, so we moved on with our campaign.”
