“I Spent So Much, It’s a Risk” — UK-Based Nigerian Man Calls Relocating Wife Abroad His ‘Craziest’ Act of Love, Sparks Debate

An abroad-based Nigerian man has stirred conversations online after opening up about what he described as the “craziest thing” he has ever done for love — relocating his wife from Nigeria to the United Kingdom.

In a now-viral video circulating on social media, the man explained that moving his wife abroad was not only financially demanding but also came with emotional and marital risks.

According to him, the relocation process cost a substantial amount of money, which he described as a major investment. He pointed out that sponsoring a spouse to move overseas involves visa processing, travel expenses, accommodation arrangements and overall settlement costs.

In his words:

“The craziest thing I have done for love is bringing my wife from Nigeria to the UK. Do you think it’s easy? Do you know how much I spent?

It’s an investment, spending a lot of money to catapult her here. It is a risk because a lot of them, when they come here, just kick their husbands out of the house.”

He further explained that despite the perceived risks — particularly stories of marriages collapsing after relocation — he decided to go ahead because of his wife’s calm personality and character, which gave him confidence in their relationship.

However, his comments took another turn when he added that his wife understands he is the “custodian of the finances” and should remain in charge. The remark has since generated intense debate, with many social media users questioning the dynamics of financial control in marriage.

While some people agreed with his stance that relocating a spouse abroad can be financially draining and emotionally risky, others criticized the framing of marriage as an “investment.” Several commentators argued that marriage should be rooted in mutual respect, partnership and shared responsibility rather than control or ownership.

The video continues to generate mixed reactions online, as Nigerians weigh in on love, relocation, financial power and trust in marriage.
