A Nigerian man living abroad has stirred reactions online after sharing a surprising experience from a dinner date with a Caucasian female friend.
The man, identified on X (formerly Twitter) as @Tobywrites, recounted how he took his Caucasian friend out for dinner and paid the bill, assuming it was a normal gesture.
However, according to him, what caught him off guard was her insistence on paying her own share of the meal. He revealed that she asked for his bank account details so she could transfer her part of the bill, a move that left him emotional.
Sharing his experience in a now-viral tweet, he wrote:
“I carry my oyinbo friend comot, pay for the dinner, she dey ask for my account number to send her cut😭. Tears full my eyes. E don dey happen to me for like 5years now. Dem no go gree make you pay for them.”
The post has since sparked mixed reactions on social media, with many users comparing dating cultures abroad to those commonly experienced in Nigeria, particularly around expectations of who should pay on a date.
