“How my parents prevented me from marrying my Igbo fiancée,” a Yoruba man explains

A young Yoruba man, simply known as Komolafe, has described how tribal differences prevented him from marrying the woman he adored and desired to be with.

Komolafe, who shared his story on Twitter, said that despite the fact that he and the lady loved each other and were already planning their wedding—he had even proposed—they were prevented from marrying after her parents discovered he was Yoruba.

He claimed that her fiancée was flogged and harassed by her parents because she insisted on marrying without their permission.

He also stated that her mother called him several times to warn him to leave their daughter alone.

He stated that he and his fiancée eventually decided to leave the drama behind and go their separate ways

Komolafe also provided screenshots of a WhatsApp conversation to back up his claim.

“I was supposed to Marry an Igbo Lady, at d Mention of my tribe to her Dad, He vehemently refused. She did all she could, she was flogged, Harassed & ostracized by her fam. Her mum called several times to warn me, based on the fuss at home. We held on together amidst all d uproar.

But at a point, we both knew we can’t work & had to let go. Those were d worst time of my life as I couldn’t imagine letting go a woman I was sure I loved after my Grandma. In all of this, i wondered why d man hated my tribe so much. Now i know better & i am not angry anymore.”
