The hosts of Euro 2024 Germany defeated Scotland, reduced to ten players, 5-1, to start their quest for a record fourth continental title on Friday.
Before halftime, Kai Havertz scored a third goal from the penalty spot after Ryan Porteous was sent off for a two-footed challenge on Ilkay Gundogan. Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala had already scored goals in the first 20 minutes of play in Munich.
In the second half, Germany’s substitutes Niclas Fuellkrug and Emre Can both found the back of the net, before Scotland earned a late consolation goal through an own goal by Antonio Ruediger.
