Hoodlums and underage Almajiris’ took to the streets of Katsina State’s capital on Thursday, throwing stones immediately after President Muhammadu Buhari commissioned the newly constructed underpass bridge along Kofar Kaura Road.
According to an eyewitness, the hoodlums were seen throwing stones at the project site while chanting “we are not interested” in Hausa.
The uproar, which lasted more than 30 minutes, was eventually put down by security personnel working with vigilante members.
However, while the situation was being brought under control with teargas, some journalists covering the president’s activities inhaled the teargas smoke.
In response to the development, SP Gambo Isah, spokesperson for the Katsina Police Command, stated that there was no protest and that Mr President was not booed, as reported by some media outlets.
However, he stated that police operatives apprehended some hoodlums who were causing unrest in Sabuwar Unguwa, a notorious area in the state for Indian hemp and drug dealers.
President Buhari is in his home state for a two-day visit to commission state government projects.
