“He was fine before…” – Single mum cries out, shares son’s sad condition after visiting his father

A Nigerian single mother has turned to social media, expressing deep regret over her son’s worrying condition following a visit to his father.

The mother, whose son is named Wisdom, revealed that she had been solely responsible for raising him for 15 years.

She said she and Wisdom’s father parted ways due to family differences but remained in touch about their son’s upbringing.

According to the mother, Wisdom repeatedly requested to visit his father, and despite her initial hesitation, she finally granted him permission on September 8, 2019.

At the time, Wisdom was described as healthy, active, and able to perform daily tasks independently.

The mother was shocked when her son’s father relocated with Wisdom shortly after the visit and denied her any further contact.

Attempts to see her son proved unsuccessful for months, leaving her distressed and anxious about his wellbeing.

On February 19, 2021, Wisdom’s father finally contacted the mother, claiming that her son was unwell and urging her to come.

When she arrived, she was shocked to see Wisdom in a frail state, unable to use his legs properly or perform basic tasks.

The mother shared a TikTok video documenting her son’s current condition, appealing to netizens for help.

The mother said she had taken Wisdom to various hospitals and even sought help from churches, but none of the interventions restored his previous health.

She admitted she does not know what caused her son’s sudden decline.

In her words:

So this is my son, Wisdom, but I decided to call him Jedidiah, meaning ‘beloved of the Lord,’ because truly, that’s what he is. He’s 17 years old already.

On September 8, I took him to his dad—not because I was tired or wanted to ‘slay,’ but because he started crying, acting up, and insisting too much that he wanted to meet his dad. He had stayed with me from birth because his dad and I are separated due to too much family wahala, and I have been a very good mother. But I had to let him go meet his dad after he kept insisting.

A lot of people kept saying, ‘This day will definitely come.’ So after much back and forth, he went to meet his dad on September 8. They later moved from their old place, and I did not see my son again. I begged his dad, sent WhatsApp messages, but he kept saying there was no need for me to see him. I was later told to just let them be—after all, I had been taking care of him alone for almost 15 years.

Only for his dad to send me a message on WhatsApp saying my son was not feeling fine and that I could come see him. A few days later, I went to their new apartment. I could not believe my eyes when I saw my own child looking like a very old man and dirty too. I cried and cried—a day I will never forget. I left but could not even do anything. I had to go back the same day, to carry my son. I was pained, hurt, broken, broken. I carried him to different places, seeking help and a solution. Hmmm no solution.”
