Mrs. Elizabeth Uruakpa, an assistant chief nursing officer at the Babcock University Teaching Hospital in Ilisan Remo, was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen on Thursday.
The gunmen ambushed Uruakpa, 66, at the entrance to her home behind the new Ilisan market, as she was reportedly leaving the evening church service.
Many locals and business owners reportedly fled the neighborhood in fear after the incident, closing their doors before anyone could discover what had happened.
The woman was abducted by the gunmen as she was leaving the church in the evening, approximately 7 of the clock at night, according to a local who spoke to our correspondent under condition of anonymity. She works as a senior nurse at Babcock University Teaching Hospital and is a member of the Winners’ Chapel. I am very familiar with her.
“They dragged her down from her vehicle, put her in their red Toyota car and sped away. It was really like thunder and lightning, and such a thing had never happened before in our neighbourhood. It is so strange and scary.”
Dr. Joshua Suleiman, the university’s director of marketing and communications, confirmed the concerning development on Friday.
He said. “I heard about it last night. It is on one of the university’s platforms but I don’t have a comprehensive report about it. Someone is already working on getting more information about this and as soon as it is ready, I will get across to you. ”
“On September 5, a distress call was received from the Ilishan near the new market at about 1710hrs that one Elizabeth Uruakpa was abducted by young armed men who blocked her Honda CRV with their unregistered red Toyota Camry and zoomed off with her,” said Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, in response to a question on her X handle.
Remember that on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Ajadeh Event Centre, Iperu/Sagamu Road, in the Iperu Remo area of the state, one of the university’s lecturers, Prof. Yinka Olomojobi, was shot and killed by a group of armed kidnappers.
The kidnappers allegedly killed Olomojobi, a professor of gender law and human rights, because he refused to submit to their demands.
