The All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Rivers State has filed a lawsuit against Governor Nyesom Wike over recent executive orders in the state that have an impact on political activity before the year 2023.
The APC stated that it was contesting Governor Wike’s executive orders 21 and 22, which were passed into law.
Executive Orders 21 and 22 prohibit political parties from using buildings in residential areas as campaign offices, respectively. Executive Order 21 prohibits political parties from using public schools for campaigns without the State’s Ministry of Education’s approval and payment of a non-refundable sum of N5 million. Sogbeye Eli, the spokesman for the APC Campaign Council in the State, said they won’t apply for the use of public facilities while speaking in Port Harcourt on Friday.
He continued by saying that it is an irregularity and that legal action has been taken. Eli declared: “Our party won’t approach anyone about using public spaces for campaigns. That will be the same as identifying irregularity. We’ve already filed a lawsuit against Executive Orders 21 and 22 with the court. Let the Court make that decision.”
Response to the Rivers State Court’s Restoration of APC Candidates The spokesperson continued by stating that it is a positive development that the Appeal Court order overturning the High Court decision regarding the participation of the APC candidates in the upcoming election. He claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State had given up on its hopes of being the only political party represented on the ballot during the elections. “We have brought you here to share time with you and tell you how happy we are that finally the Daniels have come to judgement. “That those who had plotted to stop us and thereby deprive Rivers people the opportunity to exercise our freedom as enshrined in the constitution to freely elect our leaders whether as president or governor or representatives whether State Assembly or National Assembly have failed woefully.”
